Beautiful highly lustrous deep emerald green slightly translucent crystals of dioptase to 1.6 cm in size are thickly coating the front side of a 7.6 x 6.0 x 4.9 cm calcite crystal coated matrix. At the base of the specimen there is a very small wulfenite crystal measuring 0.4 cm on edge. There are two areas with minor damage, one at the extreme lower right of the piece, the other on the lower left side. To see this, one has to look really closely at the specimen. These two areas are not readily noticeable upon first viewing the piece. Overall, based on the luster, color and size of the crystals, the quality of this piece is extremely high. I think it much better in person than as shown in the photos. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #WW476. Ref: Gebhard, G. (1999): Tsumeb II. A Unique Mineral Locality. GG Publishing, Grossenseifen, Germany, 328 p.

A beautiful well crystallized thumbnail specimen! Deep red transparent scalenohedral crystals of rhodochrosite to 8 mm in size are forming a showy 2.5 x 1.6 x 1.1 cm matrix-less cluster. Some of the crystals show slight cleaving, very much typical of these. Overall the quality is excellent for an African rhodochrosite. The color is that deep cherry red that is very attractive. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #T0722 with data card. Ref: Cairncross, B., Beukes, N. and Gutzmer, J. (1997): The manganese adventure – the South African manganese fields. A colorful large cabinet piece consisting of a 17.0 x 8.0 x 4.6 cm quartz matrix, the top mostly coated by pale pink sparkling bladed crystals of rhodochrosite averaging 0.2 cm in size. There is a secondary sprinkling of tiny quartz over the rhodochrosite. No damage - very pretty and quite choice for a large cabinet specimen from this classic Colorado locality! Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection with special exhibit label from the 2002 East Coast Gem and Mineral Show. Ref: Rocks & Min.: 63: 366-384; 71:165-166; 75:306-307.
